Distance Learning Support from Ms. Ed
Welcome to the AISB Elementary Counselor's page
Dear AISB Elementary Families,
During this time of a new normal for our community,
I will be using this Weebly page to keep in touch with you.
Please check out the Distance Learning tab to find some presentations from me about things that might be useful and hopefully supportive during this time.
On the Distance Learning page, you will see a tab that says "Email Ms. Ed"
which is another way to get in touch with me.
I will be using the Daily Sunshine tab to keep our spirits up and remind us that we can still laugh, enjoy the sunshine, and celebrate all the good around us.
This is new and different for all of us.
Let's remember to treat each other and ourselves with patience, kindness, and respect
as we move through this season of our lives.
As always, we are here for you.
~ Ms. Ed
My name is Shawn Edwards, but the kids call me Ms. Ed!
I am a Licensed Professional School Counselor who is here to help you and your child!
I am originally from Austin, Texas and have spent the last (gasp) 20+ years working with students ranging in ages from 3 through college. I've seen it all!
It is my job to work with teachers, students, parents, and administrators to help
each student reach their full potential at AISB and beyond.
To make this happen, I go into each and every classroom and do
age appropriate lessons on topics such as;
+ Feelings and Emotions + Conflict Resolution + Friends + Sharing and Kindness
+ Growth and Development + Bullying and Bystanders + Rights and Responsibilities + and much more!
I spend time with small groups of students working on common issues like friendship difficulties, worries, divorce, or students who are moving. It is sometimes a great comfort for kids to realize that someone else is going through the same thing that they are.
If a child is participating in a small group that meets on a regular basis,
I will always contact the parents to make sure they are aware in in agreement of this time spent together.
I often spend time with groups of students who are having a rough patch in their friendship and just need some mediation as they work through their very normal, but still difficult friendship struggles. My job is never to fix it for them, but often just to give them some advice as they learn to solve problems on their own.
One on one time with Ms. Ed is also available for students if they need a bit of time to talk about something specific happening in their world. These times might be once and done, or we might meet weekly for an unspecified amount of time. If I am spending time with a student on a weekly basis, I will always contact the parents to make sure they are aware and in agreement of this time spent together.
I am always here for parents as well if you need a bit of advice, some resources, or just to lend an ear
as we support one another along this journey.
Each and every child is unique and special and that is how they are viewed here at AISB!!
If you would like support, guidance, advice, or services for your child, please feel free to contact me;
