It has been wonderful to see the kids down in Multi Age begin to explore their surroundings, get to know one another, play creatively, and form into a community. Here are some things that 3 and 4 year olds are working on in their Social and Emotional Development;
As a way to support the ways our Multi Age students are growing, I will visit every other week to read a story that will focus on a social skill - how to share - how to listen - how to play together - how to use your words - how to let someone know how you feel about something.
Later in the week, I will work with smaller groups of children to focus on this skill. This will happen through the play based choices activities already happening in Multi Age. We believe that working with skills as children are naturally playing will have more meaning than talking about a social skill in isolation, apart from their normal activity.
This is such a fun, wonderful age group to spend time with. These little people are constantly learning and growing and becoming more and more of themselves each day. I look forward to spending time with them and celebrating their awesomeness!!
- Playing cooperatively with other children some of the time
- Learning to share and taking turns - this will take some time to master!
- Showing empathy towards others / understanding how others feel
- Being involved in complicated imaginative play
